California State University, Monterey Bay Otters - Women's Volleyball
Loyal Homescaper and college student, Macall, asked if she and her teammates could use our parking lot to lure potential Car Wash"ees" to help the CSUMB Women's Volleyball team raise money towards a tournament in Hawaii this Fall. And who are we to say no (though I have to admit, I worried what the powers that be in Carmel might say if asked).
The whole team turned out to wash a line-up of cars. And everyone on Macall's OTHER team, The Homescapers, ponied up to the donation jar and got our cars buffed and shined as well.
When I first pulled into our lot, though, I have to admit to a moment of apprehension. There were two sheriffs cars out front and one in the lot. My first thought was, "I guess I should have asked permission." But it turns out the excitement was for a WHOLE 'nuther reason. The bank across the street had just been robbed, and the crook had made his escape through our lot and past the Otters dutifully scrubbing cars. Their coach, Jerry, grabbed the thief as he leapt over the back fence, but the guy wriggled loose and got away.
So later, when I was in the store, I noticed a few guys looking out the window at the girls washing the cars and the police interviewing the coach and I said, "the cops are here 'cause there was a bank robbery across the street." And one guy turned to me and said, "What cops?"
Not your typical day in sleepy little Carmel.
