there are no longer bare-naked doggies roaming the neighborhoods of Carmel. The artsy types of Carmel have gotten their paws on them & gussied them all up "fur" ya. The Carmel Art Festival is auctioning off the whole litter, and our artists-in-residence, Thompson Lange & Keri Marion, each have "decorated" doggies. You can also check out some of the other who-whos of doggy decoration at the Carmel Art Festival's website.

The first thing I did was an internet search for unusual stones from all over the world and then I stuck them to the dog and kept switching them around until I came up with a pattern I found appealng. |
Once I'd found my "templates" I laid 'em out and got to workin' |
I'm "spine"ing here
|
Still "spine"ing (and in an expensive shirt, too!) |
I thought it was important that the face was a traditional and elegant stone, so I chose marble from Asia. |
![]() See, he's got a purdy face. |
I had more trouble with the granite belly than I would have thought; so I was really glad when I got to move on to the green parts (haunches). |
![]() These aren't vericose veins, they're actually Verde Antique veins from a North American Marble. |
This is kind of a weird stone, but it was one of the only ones I could find from Australia, so it dictated a lot of the other choices. |
![]() I liked it by my fifth attempt. |
For "candy pants' " ribcage, the example I used came from some sort of academic website and the guy was really proud of himself for finding this ventrifact in Antarctica. |
Oddly, this ventrifact looks the most fake, and is the most realistic modelling from the photograph, in my opinion. |
For the base I figured that since Basalt is located on every continent, that it would make an appropriate base "material." |
These are the last few moments between a boy and his dog. bye, candy pants.
